Donald Glover has opened up about a major health scare — a stroke and a heart abnormality — that forced him to cancel his 2024 global tour and reevaluate his life on stage.
What We Know:
Glover, 42, disclosed during a Nov. 22, 2025 performance at Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival in Los Angeles that what he previously described as an “ailment” was in fact a stroke.
He recounted experiencing a severe headache and impaired vision after a show in Louisiana, yet continued performing until arriving in Houston, where doctors told him: “You had a stroke.”
Following the diagnosis, medical tests revealed he had a hole in his heart which required two surgeries. He also noted breaking his foot around the same time.
These health issues caused the abrupt cancellation of the remainder of his 2024 tour — the North American, UK and European legs of the The New World Tour under the Childish Gambino moniker.
He told the audience: “They say everybody has two lives and the second life starts when you realize you have one… You got one life, guys, and I gotta be honest, the life I’ve lived with you guys has been such a blessing.”
Glover’s candid revelations mark a turning point — both in his personal health journey and his artistic path — underscoring the fragility of life even at the peak of success.
